Season 4 | Episode 7 | Chris Lanham R.T.(R) | Radiology Educator at MUSC and Adjunct Professor of CT at Trident Technical College

Season #4 Episode #7

In Season Four, Episode 7 of The RadTechLife Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Chris Lanham. His journey in radiologic technology reads like a map of resilience, mentorship, and growth, rooted in a deep-seated belief that “everyone counts, or no one counts.” This guiding principle didn’t just shape his approach to patient care; it also defined how he climbed each rung of his career—from a multi-modality technologist to an Educator at MUSC Health, and now an Adjunct Professor at Trident Technical College.

Chris’s early days in the field were influenced by his mother, a dedicated Ultrasound Technologist for almost 40 years, and the quiet strength of his father, who instilled a work ethic that would carry him through every challenge. After an unexpected turn from a fire and EMS career to radiology, Chris found his calling in imaging, specifically in CT. This world of detailed, layered scans felt like a complex puzzle waiting to be solved—a perfect fit for Chris’s methodical mind and innate curiosity.

In recent years, his journey took another unexpected turn, moving from management to education. He speaks of this transition with the same kind of awe and gratitude as he does his love for CT. Teaching brought a new dimension to his career, allowing him to merge his technical expertise with a deep passion for mentoring. His classroom isn’t just a space for teaching skills; it’s a foundation where students learn empathy, respect, and the significance of treating every person—patients, custodial staff, and healthcare colleagues alike—with dignity.

Chris’s life outside of work reflects his grounded values. His wife and children are his anchors, and he finds peace in cooking family meals and archery sessions with his youngest daughter, a state champion in South Carolina. His love for science fiction, particularly the Expanse series, mirrors his fascination with the unknown—a curiosity he channels daily into his teaching and patient care.

For Chris, radiology is far more than “pushing buttons.” It’s a world where technology and human connection intersect, where every image captured holds the potential to transform a patient’s life. His vision for the field, as he shared in the interview, is one of constant innovation paired with compassion, where future technologists understand the gravity of their work and the profound impact they can have. He hopes to inspire this sense of purpose in each of his students, helping them not only master the mechanics of radiology but also find their place in a field that, to Chris, feels like a calling.

As he continues his work, Chris’s legacy grows—not only as a skilled technologist but as an advocate for a profession that balances cutting-edge technology with the timeless art of caring. He’s a mentor, a leader, and, perhaps most importantly, a teacher who shows his students every day that in healthcare, everyone truly counts.
