Season 4 | Episode 6 | Ryan T. Ross R.T.(R) | Program Director at South College

Season #4 Episode #6

In Season Four, Episode 6 of The RadTechLife Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Ryan T. Ross, Program Director at South College. Our conversation revealed his journey from being a Grammy-nominated drummer to innovative radiology educator who showcased his dedication to transforming lives through both his unique clinical expertise and commitment to empowering future technologists with practical, high-quality training.

Ryan’s journey began in Glasgow, Scotland, as a professional drummer and founding member of the Grammy-nominated band Glasvegas. A world scholarship led him to Berklee College of Music, where he studied under legends like Gary Chaffee. But in 2010, Ryan’s life took a transformative turn toward healthcare when he pursued Radiography at Mercer County Community College. By 2015, he was working in the OR at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, tackling complex trauma cases and advancing safety through an innovative fluoroscopy dose tracking system, overseeing over 45,000 cases annually. Promoted to manage a team of 110 technologists, he elevated standards within the diagnostic X-ray department.

Education was his true calling. He transitioned to South College in Nashville, serving as Interim Program Director and pioneering a C-arm training program that filled a critical skills gap in radiography. Ryan’s passion for quality improvement led him to develop a unique C-arm training phantom, which he aims to bring to market with a comprehensive user guide.

Now pursuing a master’s in instructional design, Ryan brings his diverse experience to shape the next generation of radiologic technologists. His journey, from acclaimed musician to healthcare innovator, embodies a dedication to transformation, excellence, and the impactful intersection of art and science. His legacy beats on in the lives of his students and the patients they will one day serve.
